Just want to share one anecdote before I go to bed. I had a private tour today to Krakow part of which was the tour to Auschwitz-Birkenau (although that tour was not private). My guide for the day was a really nice lady named Marta, and she met me at the train station in Krakow and drove me around all day sharing local histories, etc.
It was another hot day and after A-B we stopped for ice cream and I also bought a bottle of water. The thing about Europe, though, is you have to make a choice between water with or without “gas,” and because I don’t know a word of Polish I accidentally chose the wrong kind (with gas when I wanted without, or still).
I brought a few packets of Crystal Light On the Go with me and thought the Wild Strawberry would be especially tasty. When I opened the bottle of water to take a sip before adding the packet I realized it was NOT still – yuk! I’ve never developed a taste for seltzer water. So I quickly added the Crystal Light, sure that would help me bear the seltzer taste (bitter!).
Did you know that Crystal Light fizzes uncontrollably when added to a bottle of seltzer water? Much like a can of soda that’s just been shaken. I didn’t, so there I was with a bottle of fizzing water spilling all over Marta’s care floor. (And it was her own car – she an her husband are self-employed tour guides so it was her personal car.) I felt so bad! She was very nice, and I cleaned it up the best I could with a rag she gave me but still I hope the tip I gave her was enough to cover my gaffe!
So you really do learn something new every day. Today I learned the Polish word for still water (niegazowana) and never to mix Crystal Light and water with “gas”!
