Did I forget to tell you that I reached a new max speed on Friday with the 2nd Porsche rental? Yes, indeed – I topped out at 215 km/h. It felt unbelievably fast and unfortunately meant I caught up to new traffic pretty quickly and had to reduce speed. The burst of speed was prompted by a cheeky VW – it had stayed in the left lane for a LOT longer than I thought appropriate, going fast sometimes but then slowing to ridiculously low speed. When he finally moved into the right lane I had to show him what’s what, thus my burst of speed – it was exhilarating while it lasted.
So how did it feel to drive my Honda Accord only one day after driving a Porsche? The bigger shock was driving in New Jersey after driving in Germany. I never felt any danger on the road in Germany but I almost got sideswiped and rear-ended before even merging onto the turnpike in Newark – literally in less than 2 minutes on the road. As for the Honda, I had her up to 95 mph before I even realized it and had to quickly remind myself that I wasn’t in a Porsche and not on the Autobahn. But the Accord can still move without too much effort – pretty good for an old girl…
As for the rest, there’s just no comparison between the Porsche and the Accord. I will never forget the acceleration and the handling of those Porsche’s but all in all, as long as I remain a working stiff, I’ll take my Accord any day of the week. Here’s why:
- She’s paid for – has been for years – do you know how nice that is? Its priceless.
- She’s low mileage for her age (12 years), low maintenance and any required repairs are not overly expensive.
- She’s a stick shift! Love that. Of course if I was rich I’d buy a manual transmission Porsche too, but as noted above I remain a working stiff.
- Her driver’s seat is perfectly adjusted to me – I never did quite manage to find the right adjustment in the Porsche’s.
- I’ve got my own music in the Honda and can jam anything I want anytime I want.
- Can you imagine how many speeding tickets I’d get if I drove a Porsche? I get enough in my Accord – it’s really for the best that I stick with my Accord.
Yes, yes, I realize I’m just putting the best spin on my circumstances but isn’t nice to know I’m still satisfied with my Accord even after driving those Porsche’s? Even if her tires do squeal when I take a curve or a corner too fast, she’s still the right car for me.
Since this is probably my last post about the Porsche, I’ve decided to load it up with most of the pictures I took. Enjoy, because I sure did. YOLO.
