Swans and ducks were ever present on the scene in Hallstatt.
The first night I woke up to the sound of horses hooves clip-clopping down the street. The next day I discovered that the sounds was actually the swans flapping their wings on the water as they took to the air or landed. They’re rather loud!
The swans were obviously used to the people and frequently swam right up to shore expecting, and often receiving, bread crumbs from the tourists. They were also completely comfortable around the various boats on the water, coming close in search of food, paddling off when none was provided.
I worked on getting some cool shots of the birds; which is your favorite?

Every afternoon the setting sun would light the yellow leaves of those trees on fire; the swan swimming in a diagonal to the golden trees was a classic “right place, right time” shot.
I don’t know if the gray swan is a youngster (still growing into his white) or a different type of swan
I’m an equal opportunity photographer; the mallard wanted his shot in the golden sun too; I especially love the fog settling into the valley – happened every sunset
In this formation, it looks like a Mama Swan with her babies. Still don’t know for certain but that’s the feel like get from this shot.
