One morning in the Delta, we came upon several Southern Carmine Bee Eaters perched on a tree.
Many photographs ensued, with birds coming and going to and from the tree.
In these 3 images, a story emerged, as follows:
Picture #1: A Bee Eater returning to the tree, with something in its mouth.Picture #2: One second later, the bird is perched comfortably on the tree, the bug still visible in its mouth.Picture #3: Ten seconds later, the bird stares down longingly at the bee (Iām assuming) it dropped
Though I have no photographic proof, in my mind, the bee was still alive. Having made a full fledged escape from the Bee Eater, the bee returned to the hive and shared his cautionary tale with the younger bees. And of course he lived happily ever after. š
