Pompeii

If you follow me on Facebook, you know that I got a very late start on Thursday. (Exactly how late will be my little secret.) I decided to get out to Pompeii to visit the site. I took the Circumvesuviano, a regional train that ends in Sorrento, making it relatively easy to take. My train left 12 minutes late and until we started moving we were all sweltering in the humidity. Sweat-soaked yet again! Yay. Once we started moving the air coming in through the windows felt absolutely refreshing.

Leaving the train at Pompeii, I found out I had missed the last English walking tour by about 10 minutes, of course. But they were able to form another tour and about 15 of us went off with Stella, yet another lovely guide. I had great guides for every excursion on this trip, I feel so lucky! Stella has a lovely accent that ended each word with a lilting “ah” – as in the “streets-ah,” the “ruins-ah, ” etc.

The site is astonishingly large and so interesting. I would have loved to tour in a smaller group, and taken more pics, but I was tired by the end and returned to Sorrento shortly after the tour ended. I’ll share some pics later, so be sure to check back!

Grazie!
